Beforehand
Afterwards

Light switches become toggle switches.

Technically conceived.

Conventional light switches are primarily designed with functionality in mind. Flat plastic frames, visible transitions, and standardized surfaces fulfill their purpose – but usually remain purely technical elements within a room.

Especially in architecturally designed interiors, this often creates harsh contrasts between high-quality materiality and functional installations. The switch becomes a necessity, not a designed detail.

Architecturally Considered.

ARQE /01 transforms existing light switches into architectural toggle switches – without replacing the existing installation.

Precise proportions, material-emphasized surfaces, and the characteristic toggle switch mechanism create a new spatial effect. The switch no longer appears as a technical component but seamlessly integrates into the architecture, material, and light.

This creates the impression of a high-quality toggle switch, without new electrics, without new wiring, and without a complete system change.

A functional light switch becomes a deliberately designed detail. Technology becomes spatial impact.

Thoughtful to the last detail.

How does ARQE work?

ARQE™ follows a simple principle: Existing light switches are transformed into architectural toggle switches – without replacing the existing installation.

At the core is the existing flush-mounted switch insert. It continues to perform its proven electrical function and is deliberately retained. No new wiring. No replacement of the insert. No changes to the existing installation.

Building on this, the ARQE™ base plate connects the system with the existing switch. It creates the foundation for all further components and ensures precise integration into existing System 55 installations. Integrated magnets allow for clean, tool-free fastening.

The characteristic toggle switch lever translates the familiar switching function into a new haptic experience. Every movement is clearly defined, consciously guided, and conveys the impression of a classic architectural toggle switch.

The ARQE™ frame completes the system. It gives the system depth, presence, and a new spatial effect. Precise proportions, material-emphasized surfaces, and the striking geometry create a smooth transition between switch and architecture.

This means no new light switch is created, but rather a new way of experiencing existing light switches:

  • from existing installation to architectural toggle switch,
  • from technical function to conscious design,
  • from an ordinary switch to an integral part of the room.
ARQE /01 Compatibility Checker

Does ARQE /01 fit your installation?

ARQE /01 fits System 55 installations and many flush-mounted switches with a visible rocker or insert dimension of up to approx. 71 mm. For the toggles, it is also important that the existing rocker cover is straight and flat.

1. Check rocker cover

Ist deine aktuell vorhandene Wippblende gerade und flach?

2. Check dimensions

Is your rocker or socket insert in System 55 format or visibly no larger than approx. 71 mm?

Answers to compatibility, installation, delivery, and the most important details about ARQE.

Compatibility & Brand Information

ARQE /01 was developed for the 55 mm system established in Europe – the standard for modern electrical installations.

The frame can be combined with a variety of common switch and socket programs and integrates precisely into existing installations. This makes ARQE /01 compatible with most modern residential installations.

Compatible with, among others:

  • Gira® (System 55, E2, E3, Esprit)
  • JUNG® (AS 500, A 550, A Creation)
  • Busch-Jaeger® (future® linear, Reflex SI, Solo®)
  • Berker® (S.1, B.1, B.3)
  • Merten® (System M, M-Pure, M-Plan)

Due to manufacturer-specific production tolerances, the fit may vary slightly in individual cases.

The brands, product names, and manufacturer designations mentioned are for the sole purpose of describing the compatibility of our products. All brand, product, and company names are the property of their respective owners. There is no commercial connection between ARQE.STUDIO or eb tales and the respective brand owners.

Installation

ARQE is simply placed on existing switches and sockets – no intervention in the electrical system is required.

The frame sits securely and can be removed without leaving any residue if necessary.

Developed for easy everyday use – without compromising on precision.

Complete Installation Guide
Design & Proportion

Reduced to clear geometry and precise proportions.

A fine circumferential shadow gap visually lifts the frame off the wall, creating a calm, architectural effect.
The precisely square shape ensures consistent alignment in the room.

As part of the /01 Series, ARQE is available in several formats – for a consistent appearance throughout the entire space.

Material & Manufacturing

Precisely manufactured using an additive process from PLA – a dimensionally stable, resource-saving plastic based on renewable raw materials.

The surface is deliberately kept calm, with clearly defined edges and a pleasant feel.
Each part is produced as needed – without overproduction and with reduced material usage.

Developed for long-term use in an architectural context.

Designed and manufactured in Germany.

Scope of delivery

Each ARQE set contains all components for mounting and integration into existing light switch or socket installations.

Included in delivery:

  • ARQE base plate
  • ARQE frame
  • Toggle(s) – if configured
  • Mounting template for precise alignment of the toggles
  • Screw set for fastening the base plate to the metal frame of existing switch or socket inserts
  • Operating instructions

The base plate is fixed directly in the flush-mounted box via integrated elongated holes, thus enabling clean, precise alignment within existing installations.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the frame fit my existing switches?

ARQE /01 fits most installations in the System 55 format as well as many modern flush-mounted switches with a visible rocker or insert dimension of up to approx. 71 mm.

How is the frame assembled?

ARQE /01 replaces the existing switch frame and continues to use the existing switch insert. After removing the previous frame, the ARQE frame is mounted and the existing cover is reinserted.

The electrical installation remains unchanged. No additional components, no new wiring and, as a rule, no special tools are required.

What material are the frames made of?

Our frames are precisely 3D-printed from PLA. This material allows for a clear design language and a finely structured, matte surface.

How does the surface feel?

The surface is slightly matte and finely layered. It creates a calm, architectural impression and deliberately distinguishes itself from glossy plastic surfaces.

Are the frames durable and suitable for everyday use?

Yes. The frames are designed for daily indoor use. They are dimensionally stable, easy to clean, and retain their shape even with regular use.

Are the frames heat-resistant?

PLA is ideal for indoor use. Direct, prolonged exposure to heat (e.g., from strong sunlight or heat sources) should be avoided.

Can I combine different colors?

Yes. The color palette is developed in such a way that all tones can be harmoniously combined with each other – both within one room and across several frames.

How are the frames delivered?

The frames are delivered securely packaged. The packaging is tailored to the product and protects the geometry during transport.

Are the frames manufactured in series or individually?

Every frame is manufactured using 3D printing. This allows us to combine precise reproducibility with flexible production.

Where are the frames manufactured?

Manufacturing takes place in Germany with a focus on precision, material efficiency, and design quality.
